Place pictures on the label
Imagescanbevarioussizes.Iftheoriginalsizeofthegraphicsisnotvalidforyourlabel,youcan
freelyresizetheimagebydraggingthehandlessurroundingit.Theimagecanberesizedpro-
portionallyorstretchedinbothdirections.
Thegraphicsobjectscanalsobeplacedonthelabelfromtheclipboardorimportedfromanother
applications(i.e.CorelDraw,scanningprograms...),usingeithertheInsertObjectorPastecom-
mandfromtheEditmenu.Inthiscase,thegraphicsisembeddedinthelabelfile.Thegraphicsis
entirelystoredinthelabelfilenotseparatelyontheharddisk.
Note:WhenyouinsertthegraphicsasOLEobjectonthelabel(copy/pastefromothersoftware),the
entiredesignenvironmentofthatothersoftwareisavailableinlabeldesign.Whenyoudoubleclick
suchOLEobject,thatotherapplicationopensonthelabel.WhenusingOLEobject,thelabelproc-
essingmightbeslower.AlabelalsooccupiesmorespaceonthediskandtakesmoreRAM.Ifpos-
sible,avoidusingOLEobjectsonthelabel.
Use variable pictures
Whenyouusevariablepicturesonthelabel,usuallyyouwillprovidethepathandfilenameofthe
picturestoredinsomefilesystem.Thelabelingsoftwarewilllocatetheimagefileandusethepic-
tureonthelabel.Thepicturenamecanbeacquiredfromdifferentsources(contentsproviders):key-
boardprompt,fieldinadatabase,resultofsomefunctionetc.
However,youcanalsousethepicturesstoredinthedatabaseBLOBfields.Thesefieldsdonotcon-
tainthereferencetotheimagelocationinsomefilesystem(pathandfilename),butcontainthe
imageitself.ThelabelingsoftwarewillreadtheimagefromtheBLOBfieldanduseitwiththepic-
tureobjectonthelabel.
Whenyoudefinegraphicsasanvariableobject(somevariabledefinesthepathanfilenameofthe
picture),Thelabelingsoftwaredoesnotknowthesizeofthepictureinadvance,becausethisinfor-
mationisprovidedonlyatprintorpreviewtime.Untilthepicturenameisknown,thepictureispre-
viewedasaquestionmark.
Onceyouplaceafixedpictureonthelabel,youcanembeditinintothelabel.Thepicturewillbe
savedinsidethelabel,soyounolongerneedtheoriginalpictureonthedisk.Itmakesthelabelmore
portable.
Handle missing pictures
Thelabelingsoftwareremembersthepathandfilenameofthepicturethatyouplaceonthelabel.
Eachtimeyouopenthelabel,thelabelingsoftwarechecksifthepicturesisaccessibleandthenuses
itonthelabel.Ifthepictureismissing,youwillseeawarningdialogbox.Youcan:
l Ignoretheerrorandtemporarilydesignthelabelwithouttheneededpicture.
l Discardthemissingpictureandpermanentlyremoveitfromthelabel.
l Browsetothemissingpictureifyouhavechangedthepicturefolderlocationorfile-
name.
